Shoulder adolescent/adult instability, following anterior and posterior labral repair

Physiotherapy Prescription:

Weeks 0-3 postop

Sling x 6 weeks
-
No pendulars
-
Active, AAROM in shoulder flex/ext OK to 90 deg
-
Full Elbow and wrist ROM OK
-
No Shoulder ER past 0 degrees
-
No shoulder abduction
-
Deltoid isometrics OK
-
-
Weeks 3-6 postop
-
No Forced shoulder ER or IR
-
No Forward flexion > 90 degrees
-
No Abduction > 90 degrees|
-
PROM OK
-
Pool exercises for AAROM in flex/ex, horizontal Adduction
-
-
Weeks 6-12 postop
-
No flies or bench press
-
Exercises should be narrow grip and in front
-
OK to start light vertical rows
-
OK to start WB/Strengthening at 6-8 weeks
-
IR with arm AB is now allowed
-
Continue PT as above
-
AROM, AAROM to improve ER
-
Goal 10-20 degrees less than other side
-
-
No flies, No bench press
-
No posterior capsular stretching PRE’s
-
PRE’s for biceps, triceps, scapula
-
No ER PRE’s
-
-
3 months postop
-
AROM for FROM
-
Keep PRE’s below horizontal plane for non-throwers
-
-
4 months post op​
-
return to non-contact, non-throwing sports​

5-6 Months postop

Return to overhead sports
